Merit Training Institute

I graduated from merit a little over a month ago and loved it! I took the am MA class and graduated with 5 certifications. I looked forward to class and clinical every day. Miss Elle was a fantastic teacher and I don’t think class would have been so exciting without her. She never got tired of the millions of questions I asked, and always had faith in us even if we weren’t too sure ourselves. She was always so encouraging even when we were terrified of phlebotomy and made sure we were always confident and did our best. By the end of the course we mastered it. The classes are small so you are guaranteed to get the direct focus and help you need and I think that’s the best way to learn. We practiced everything on each other so we were able to see what drawing blood on different people is like and also EKG. You get a lot of homework and quizzes/tests but I promise that is a big part of what helps you get by. I wouldn’t have retained much information without that. Yes there are a lot of rules and some things can be strict but if you’re focused and serious about the class and career it shouldn’t be a problem. While there are a lot of rules, the environment is still relaxed if that makes sense. Catherine and Brandi were so helpful as well. They really care and want you to do the best, even after you graduated. They make sure you know what you’re doing when it comes to job searching, applications, and interviews.and will even help you find job placement. I was recently offered a job in a local hospital and couldn’t wait to pass the good news to Brandi, Catherine, and Elle. I could not have made it without them. Im so thankful for merit and am so happy I chose to help me get started on this career

I am a recent graduate of the MA/PCT class. Attending this type of course during the pandemic was definitely challenging, and our class that started with 4 people, and ended with 2 at graduation definitely had to work extra hard to complete the clinical components required to graduate. I am thankful that this program was still being delivered during the pandemic and I do feel ready to enter the workforce.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about the instructor, Elle, who literally kept me going everyday! She was encouraging, motivating, empathetic, compassionate, and brought lots of her personal experiences to the curriculum, which only enriched my understanding of the material. I had no prior experience in the healthcare field, and I graduated (and passed all of the NHA certifications) because Elle took great care to ensure I was not only prepared, but was able to excel in the course. I hope many more students have the privilege to learn from her!

I am an old student of Merit. I graduated about 4 years ago from their old location. I just have to say how awesome they are! Catherine was a fantastic teacher, and I have definitely used her knowledge she has taught me in the field in the last 4 years! The hands on learning is especially useful as I have had patient contact on a daily basis. I have been in the orthopedic field the last few years and now I get to take my knowledge with to an opportunity at Cooper Hospital. I can't thank the staff enough for all the time and effort they all put forth. A big shout out to Brandi when 4 years later, I needed something, she jumped right on it! 🙂

My experience at Merit was awesome. I took the MA course and have been working as a MA for almost a year now. Catherine was fantastic, as was the group of girls in my class. We all worked together and would even meet before or after class to study. It is a lot of information to process but Catherine is great with giving little acronyms and analogies to help you remember, which helped a lot while I was taking my certifications. Would totally recommend Merit, I had so much fun there.

I recently completed the course in Medical Coding and Billing at Merit Training Institute. I was laid off from my last retail job of nine years so I made the decision to change careers and go back to school. Going to Merit was the best decision I could have made! Everyone there is absolutely wonderful! Melanie, our receptionist, always there to greet us with a warm hello and a smile. Pat, our teacher, was excellent, she’s been in the medical coding business for 30 years and she really knows her stuff! I could not have asked for a better instructor. Tricia, our placement coordinator, was extremely helpful reviewing cover letters, preparing me for interviews and answering any questions I had about prospective employers.

Brandi, the school director, is always available to help you with any questions you may have and will give you as many practice tests as you want for the CPC exam. This is not an easy exam to pass but because of her assistance with test taking skills and tips, I passed the CPC on the first try! Within a week after submitting my resume to a few companies, I have a job. The best part about this school, besides the people, is that you will still have access to the facilities and their assistance after graduation and beyond. I cannot say enough good things about Merit Training Institute and the ladies who run it. If you are thinking about going here, don’t think twice!
