I took flute lessons with Melissa for four years (all throughout high school); to say the least, I would not trade my time with Melissa for anything. I would recommend her to any student of any age/ability level. Coming into private lessons with her, I was lacking in some basic areas in my flute playing: rhythm and musicality in particular. Four years later, I can honestly say that Melissa has, without doubt, filled those "holes" and advanced me eons from where I was previously as a flute player.
Melissa couples patience with passion. Her love for playing the flute (which she does QUITE well!) is extremely infectious in regards to her students. From personal experience, Melissa believes in each and every one of her students and wants the best for them. She is extremely observant as to the strengths and weaknesses of individual students and how best to fit her teaching to bring out those strengths and improve those weaknesses. However, what I love most about Melissa is her way of critiquing - not a cut-throat, "I'm the teacher, you're the student" critique but an uplifting, patient, and all-around clear one.
I am extremely grateful to Melissa for all that she has done for me; where I would be without her, I would honestly not like to know. Again, I would, without hesitation, recommend Melissa to any student of any age/ability.
